Company overview

Keycafe stores physical keys in wall-mounted smart lockers and grants permission to pick them up through a cloud app, replacing the manual key handoff in any business where staff, customers, contractors, or guests need access to a specific key at specific times. The MS5 SmartBox base unit is a steel-reinforced polycarbonate locker about the size of a picture frame, with nine numbered bins, a 7-inch touchscreen, a 5-megapixel camera, an NFC reader for the per-key fob, a microphone and speaker for support calls, and a lipo battery backup. It mounts to drywall through a steel backplate held by an electronic lock that is only released through the cloud app. The MS5E-18 and MS5E-42 expansion units daisy-chain to the base, scaling a single mounting location up to hundreds of keys. The Keycafe cloud platform sits on top with iOS, Android, desktop, and REST API access for per-key permissions, time-window restrictions, one-time codes, audit logging, programmable alerts, and video review of key exchanges.

Customers buy the SmartBox hardware and pay a per-location monthly subscription for the cloud platform. The hardware-as-a-service layer is the subscription, with three openly published tiers—Lite for facilities, offices, and small auto fleets; Premium for short-term rentals, multi-location operations, and large fleets; and Business Pro for large organizations and integrators—billed monthly per location or annually at a discount. A legacy pay-as-you-go option supports the original Airbnb host channel. Onboarding is bundled into the subscription, with a Keycafe specialist scheduled to configure the deployment and train staff after each new SmartBox ships.
