Company overview
Building a new semiconductor fabrication plant typically costs tens of billions of dollars, employs thousands of specialized engineers, and takes five years to bring online. CubeFabs, the AI factory venture from Brooklyn-based Nanotronics, builds a smaller version of the same idea: a modular semiconductor manufacturing plant that ships in 40-foot containers, assembles on-site in about a year, and runs with around thirty workers who need factory experience but not chip-fab specialization. The smallest CubeFab is roughly 25,000 square feet; the largest is around 60,000. The architecture lets a customer reconfigure the plant for different materials and processes, with a current focus on compound semiconductors like gallium oxide—a material that’s harder to manufacture than silicon but more efficient for power electronics and data-center applications. Each plant runs on nControl, CubeFabs' patented AI platform: nControl Production tracks sensor and automation data across the line in real time, and Copilot combines inspection data with process control to push yields up.
CubeFabs operates a hybrid hardware-as-a-service model structured as a franchise. A customer buys a CubeFab outright for a minimum of $30 to $40 million (a fraction of the multi-billion-dollar cost of a traditional chip fab) and gets balance-sheet ownership of the facility. CubeFabs orchestrates the supply chain, prefabricates the modular pieces, and installs the plant according to the customer's specific manufacturing needs. After installation, CubeFabs continues to provide service and monitoring and bundles the nControl AI platform under an ongoing license. The structure keeps CubeFabs in a recurring relationship that grows alongside the customer's production; and it gives universities, mid-sized manufacturers, and regional governments a path to onsite chip production that has historically been available only to a handful of multibillion-dollar incumbents.

"These fabs do not require billions in capital expenditure or large populations of highly trained workers," explains Matthew Putman, CubeFabs’ Founder and CEO. "The vision is that any region—whether in the Global South or the United States—should be able to produce what it needs locally."
