Company overview
Crystal Instruments builds the hardware that engineers use to shake, measure, and qualify physical products before they ship. The Spider family drives the giant shaker tables that vibrate a product on the test bench while simultaneously capturing vibration, sound, and strain measurements from sensors wired across whatever is being tested. The system scales from a compact benchtop unit up to a coordinated network of hundreds of channels for full-vehicle or full-airframe tests. The CoCo handheld line carries the same architecture into the field for maintenance crews checking machines for early signs of wear. The Ground Recorder System packages the CoCo platform for ground vibration testing of aircraft. Every Spider and CoCo product runs Engineering Data Management, the company's software suite that handles test setup, drives the shaker, captures the data, and produces the reports the engineer hands to a customer or auditor. EDM Cloud extends that software with remote access so a test engineer can watch a test running in another building (or another country) and share live results without flying out to the lab.
The company operates as a hybrid hardware-as-a-service business that wraps an outright hardware sale in three layers of recurring revenue. Customers can buy Spider controllers and CoCo analyzers from the company's online store, or rent the same hardware short-term through the CI Rentals program when a one-off qualification project doesn't justify a capital purchase. Once a customer owns or rents a system, the cloud monitoring service is sold as an ongoing subscription that scales with the number of monitored tests and seats. A separate license store sells calibration software licenses that the customer renews each year to keep the hardware producing audit-ready measurements that pass regulatory inspections. The structure keeps Crystal Instruments in a recurring relationship with the engineer long after the hardware ships.
